A Tribute to
DONALD PLAYFORD
Artist & Musician
1954-2010
My cousin Don sadly died in August 2010, aged 56, from alcoholism. He had an outstanding natural talent for drawing and painting – wildlife and birds in particular – and attended Middlesbrough Art College in the early 70s.
He was also a natural guitarist and played in various local bands in the 70s/80s. He also toured on cruise ships as a member of Wych Hazel with brother Ray, June Grant and Bob Skingle (who was also in the Teesside Fettlers).
Don was a big inspiration to me as a kid in the 70s. I was in awe of his paintings, the fact that he had been to art school and his playing of his electric guitar in his bedroom in Berwick Hills.

WANTED:
DON'S LOST ARTWORK!
Don sadly never fulfilled his potential as an artist nor musician. When he died, his paintings were long sold and their whereabouts largely unknown. Through this website however, I have been able to acquire originals and photos of others. I would love to track down more of them and keep building this online exhibition in tribute to Don. If you have any please get in touch – there must be more out there! Thank you, Craig Hornby
