SYNOPSIS:
Vin Garbutt is a legend of English folk music. His trademark blend of traditional reels, passionate protest songs and zany patter has won him legions of fans across the world. And he has achieved this, not with any major backing or media profile but with non-stop touring and word of mouth.

Now, after 40 years on the road, Vin’s unique story is told in this definitive documentary. Filmed in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Europe and in his native North East, it combines fly-on-the-wall, unseen archive and live concert footage plus candid interviews. ‘Teesside Troubadour’ is typically Vin - fascinating, philosophical and funny!

JUNE 10th: DVD LATEST !
Selling a folk singer who is more than a folk singer to a non-folk audience is still no mean task! Landing a TV slot is notoriously difficult and it came as no surprise at all to draw a complete blank! This baffles people when I tell them and they almost always then ask "But what about regional TV?" The sad fact is there is less regional TV than ever before. It barely exists! Nonetheless, it is still very frustrating knowing that the film would WITHOUT DOUBT go down a storm across the region if it was shown and instantly create tons of new fans for Vin and the film!

On the positive side, THE SAGE booking is great news - a truly magnificent regional platform for the film ! The DVD has also had positive reviews in R2, The Link and Stirrings magazines and a plug by Mike Harding on BBC Radio2. A major front cover feature is also forthcoming in Living Tradition magazine. The DVD is selling well at WATERSTONES, WHSMITH and HMV and indie outlets on Teesside and Online orders have already come in from across Britain and the world.
So onwards we go - Vin Garbutt media shadow be damned!

JAN 2011: DVD POSTPONED FOR BIGGER PLAN
After fantastic crowds at Cineworld in November, Vin and I decided to postpone the DVD's Xmas release so that we can further build up the film's profile. It's crucial that the film is seen outside of the folk circuit in order to reach the widest possible audience. We are now targetting TV channels, film festivals and independent cinemas. This also includes Canada and Australia. The DVD with many extra features should be out around Easter.

VIN FILM SUBMITTED TO TORONTO

'Teesside Troubadour'
has been submitted to 'HOT DOCS' in Toronto.
This is the top documentary festival in Canada so if TT is selected it means great exposure to potential buyers from Canadian TV channels plus media and the public.
I lived in Toronto in the late 90s and this festival is a BIG DEAL. With the film partly shot in Ontario (Toronto, London and on an Ojibwa Reservation) it surely can't hurt!

VIN FILM SUBMITTED TO SHEFFIELD

'Teesside Troubadour'
has been submitted to 'SHEFFIELD DOC/FEST'.
This is the biggest documentary festival in the UK where I was a speaker and part of 'A Century in Stone' was shown in 2005. If TT is selected, it would be a great platform for exposure to TV people, media and the public.

SUN 28th NOV:
VIN DVD RELEASE POSTPONED FOR BIGGER PLAN

Vin and I have decided to postpone the DVD release until 2011. The Xmas market was very tempting but we think it is too soon to go to DVD and want to further build the film's profile. We think it is crucial that the film be exposed to the widest audience esp. outside the folk circuit.
We are going to pull out all the stops to target all relevant TV broadcasters regionally, nationally and also in Australia and Canada; as many indie cinema-venues as possible across the NE - Three are already keen and Cineworld are interested in doing a one day special; also cinemas in Oz where I took 'A Century in Stone' in 2005 and where Vin has big support; and lastly as many doc fests as possible including international.

Landing a TV sale is notoriously difficult and I am not that optimistic but if we don't go for it we will forever wonder if...
So sorry to disappoint those wanting the DVD for Xmas but we hope you will understand. Maximising the impact of a film is always the absolute aim. I would like to think a TV screening and more cinema showings will happen in the first quarter of 2011 and the DVD release will follow immediately after.

MYSTERY VIN FILM CLIP FOUND!

After Coastal View & Moor News published our appeal to help us find the mystery man who it had been reported had filmed the earliest ever clip of Vin Garbutt, we found him in the nick of time near Guisborough. We now have the clip - all 20 odd seconds of it. It was filmed in a South Bank flat back in 1966 when Vin was 18 !
Big Thanks to Coastal View, Jo E and Dave B !

VIN FILM PREVIEWS AT SALTBURN FOLK FESTIVAL

Over 100 attended the 'unofficial premiere' for 'Teesside Troubadour at this years Folk Festival in Saltburn. The film is 99.8% complete after an a frantic all night and no sleep edit session the night before. A folky dragon's den Q&A followed which was very interesting. Thanks to all who attended and took part and Maxine at the CIU for supporting the event. The FINAL CUT is on the way and will be launched officially as soon as all legal copyright issues are resolved.

FEB & MAR 2007: ON TOUR WITH VIN GARBUTT
Just returned from shooting Vin Garbutt on tour in Holland, Belgium, Malaysia and Australia. Amazing to see him perform songs and tell stories from Teesside so far from the place. Audiences were spellbound and in hysterics wherever he went. The highlight was Australia's biggest folk festival at Port Fairy where he played to around 5,000 !

Special Thanks to Ralph McTell, Rory Mcleod , Kristina Olsen and all the Vin fans for their comments on camera.
And many thanks to our fine hosts; Margaret and Ian in KL, Jan and Gaz in Briz, Debbie and Kim in Sydney and Andrew and Heather in Victoria. Thanks also to Malcolm Hill for the pic of Vin and me in Sydney.

JAN 2007:
IN PRODUCTION - VIN GARBUTT
'TEESSIDE TROUBADOUR'

Vin Garbutt is a Teesside folk legend who has been on a virtual non-stop tour since 1969. To mark his forthcoming 40th year on the road, I am putting together a definitive 'folkumentary' of his life. I have already filmed a couple of local shows and in February will travel with him to Europe, Malaysia and Australia.

The plan is to film him sporadically over the next couple of years and then launch the film in the Spring of 2009 with cinema screenings, DVD release and maybe even...a TV slot !
