My cousin Don died on August 3rd, aged 56, from alcohol-related illness.
He was a natural guitarist who played in various local bands in the 70s/80s. In the mid-70s he toured on cruise ships as a member of Wych Hazel with brother Ray.
He also had an outstanding natural talent for drawing and painting - wildlife and birds in particular and attended Middlesbrough Art College in the early 70s.
Don was a big inspiration to me as a kid in the 70s. I was in awe of his paintings and the fact that he had been to art school. I also remember being blown away when he played his electric guitar in his bedroom in Berwick Hills...Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Chile note for note!
Don's original artwork !
Don sadly never fulfilled his potential as a musician or artist.
His best paintings are long sold and their whereabouts unknown. The few pieces that remain in the family I have included on this site. I would love to track down the rest and create a comprehensive permanent exhibition online in tribute to Don.
